A large crowd surrounded California firefighters at an intersection late Wednesday, climbing on their apparatus and pulling off a section of hoseline before dispersing.
The incident happened just after 11 p.m. and involved Turlock firefighters, KTXL-TV reports. Video footage posted online shows a crowd gathering around the firefighters' apparatus in what is described as a "sideshow incident," in which a group of people meet and hang out around parking lots and other public areas, according to KCRA-TV.
As the crowd grows in size, some people can be seen blocking the apparatus, while others climb onto the rig. A section of hoseline also is taken off the apparatus.
Eventually, the firefighters turn on the vehicle's lights and sound the horn in order to break up the group and move out of the area. They then drive to a safe location to reattach the hoseline, and the crowd disperses shortly after police reach the scene.
No one was injured in the incident, and the apparatus was only briefly out of service. All of the department's equipment also was recovered or undamaged.
Police are currently investigating the matter, and with summer weather on the way, officials are looking for ways to prevent a repeat of similar sideshow incidents.
